Commercial upright fridge or refrigerated counter: which fits your kitchen?

Buying guide

Sterling Pro SPR212PV stainless-steel double-door commercial refrigerator, doors closed
The SPR212PV upright refrigerator discussed in this guide.

Start with the job you need refrigeration to do. Are you storing ingredients for the kitchen as a whole, or reaching for them repeatedly at one preparation station? An upright fridge and a refrigerated counter can both provide chilled storage, but their layouts answer different questions. Sketch the movement between deliveries, storage and preparation before comparing litres.

Choose around the way you prepare food

Consider an upright when your first priority is a dedicated storage cabinet. The SPR212PV double-door refrigerator has six adjustable 2/1 GN shelves. Think about the containers you actually store and how you would arrange them across those shelves, rather than choosing by the largest number in the product title.

A refrigerated counter is worth considering when chilled ingredients and a work surface belong in the same part of the kitchen. Our GN2100TNG two-glass-door refrigerated counter combines those functions. Decide what will happen on the surface and how staff will open the doors during service. A counter that fits the floor plan still needs to fit the working routine.

Drawers offer another arrangement. The GXX608 refrigerated counter lists four GN1/1 drawers. Lay out your usual ingredients and containers before deciding whether drawers or doors make the more practical station. Container compatibility needs more than a familiar GN label: check dimensions and the arrangement you intend to use.

Compare storage figures on the same basis

The SPR212PV is described as a 1200-litre gross cabinet with 891 litres of net storage capacity. Those are two different measures of the same refrigerator. Use the net figure where it is supplied, and keep the shelf layout in the comparison.

The GN2100TNG lists 282 litres of capacity; the GXX608 lists 168 litres. Their descriptions do not identify those figures as net capacity, so avoid treating all three numbers as a like-for-like measure of usable storage. Instead, check whether your normal containers, ingredients and stock rotation plan will fit the exact interior.

Three examples to compare against your layout
Model Storage arrangement Listed overall size, W × D × H
SPR212PV Double-door upright; six adjustable 2/1 GN shelves 1340 × 810 × 2010mm
GN2100TNG Two glass doors; two shelves 1360 × 700 × 850mm
GXX608 Four GN1/1 drawers 1200 × 700 × 650mm

These dimensions describe the units, not the complete installation space. Add the clearance required by the instructions and room to open doors or drawers, move around the station and carry out cleaning.

Check chilled storage and the operating environment

The two counters list a +2°C to +8°C range. The SPR212PV lists an adjustable −2°C to +8°C range and is a refrigerator for fresh-food storage. Its lower setting does not make it a substitute for a freezer. Match the equipment and operating instructions to what you plan to store.

Check the kitchen conditions as well as the cabinet setting. For example, the SPR212PV specifies a maximum ambient temperature of 30°C at 55% relative humidity. Measure and assess the intended position, especially near cooking equipment, and use the exact model’s installation requirements when planning ventilation.

Walk the route before ordering

Check the route from the delivery point to the final position, including doorways, turns and any lift. The SPR212PV’s packed dimensions are 1400 × 870 × 2150mm, larger than its external cabinet dimensions. Checking only the unpacked height could leave a practical access problem unresolved.

  • List the ingredients and containers to store, then choose doors, shelves or drawers around them.
  • Measure the final position, working access and delivery route.
  • Confirm electrical supply, ventilation and the permitted operating environment for the exact model.
  • Arrange receiving and positioning help; check what the delivery service includes.

The best shortlist is the one that fits your stock and preparation routine. Send KitchenLynx your chosen model, layout question and delivery postcode if a detail needs confirming before you order.
